Which Home Routine Stresses You The Most?

If you’ve been reading about Millennial lifestyles recently, you probably know that the majority of them have complained about the difficulties and challenges of adulting. The concept of fulfilling the responsibilities of an adult at home or in the office has opened the door to plenty of new memes on social media. From people who fail at preparing a simple birthday cake for their child’s party – the typical slightly burnt, dry cake that is covered in gooey cream – to those who let clutter take over their entire home, the fear of not meeting the expectations of an adult lifestyle has merged into anxiety and frustration.

But Millennials blame themselves too often for simple mistakes that could easily be corrected. The truth is that nobody is perfect. And if the previous generations managed to develop some of the necessary adult skills at home better than you did, it’s probably because they’ve had more experience at it. Indeed, a lot of Millennials can’t cook or do basic household chores as a result of growing up with protective parents who took it upon themselves to make the life of their children easier. Consequently, you are older when you first try to cook or to keep the bathroom clean, and failing to get things right has a more stressful impact on your everyday life. But this has to stop! Don’t let your home routine affects your mood. If things go wrong, you need to get at the bottom of the problem and sort it out.

Sleeping is the worst in an uncomfortable bedroom

Sleeping doesn’t exactly sound like the most obvious of routines at home, but it is nevertheless something you have to do every day to function. Insomnia and sleep issues are prevalent among young adults. While you might associate it with a hectic day, in reality, there are plenty of more obvious reasons for feeling tired in the morning. Firstly, an important question you need to ask yourself: is your mattress doing anything for you? Picking a mattress that is too firm or too soft might lead to back pain and uncomfortable sleeping positions. In other words, forget the online offers and go and try the mattress in shops. Secondly, most people can’t get comfortable at night because they’re using a pillow that isn’t suitable for their neck, or poor quality bedding. Your soft furnishings matter a lot. They can not only create a decor, but they are also part of your sleep experience. Choose them wisely! Finally, if you’re the kind of person who watches TV or uses their smartphone in bed, you need to quit the habit. The light from electronic screen tricks your brain into thinking that it’s daytime.

Hating the mould magnet: the bathroom

The bathroom should make you feel fresh and clean. But when the walls are attacked by mould patches regularly, it’s difficult to feel confident in your cleaning rituals. The bathroom is natural a moist room. It’s the combined presence of excess humidity and dust that encourages the formation of mould. When dark patches keep appearing on the wall and around the washing basin, you need to look for walk in shower options that let you clean in depth all around the units. Additionally, you should upgrade your ventilation system to encourage air circulation.

I’d rather order a takeaway

Cooking was good enough for your grandmother, but you just hate it. But have you considered how much poor kitchen design can affect your cooking abilities? The essential kitchen triangle consists of the sink, the oven and the fridge. If any of these has obstructed access, you’ll find it more difficult to prepare delicious meals. Inadequate storage facilities and poor lighting can also affect the cooking experience. In short, change the kitchen, not the cook.

Gardening should be fun!

Whether you’ve got a garden or just potted plants, you’ve probably come across brochures promoting wildlife-friendly tips for your outdoors. Naturally, there is nothing more frustrating than comparing your dried out garden to the luxuriant greenery of your retired neighbours. Is spare time the only difference? Don’t think of yourself as a plant killer. Keeping your plants alive requires knowledge. You can’t pick a plant without reading about its needs first, from watering to shade. Most plants need to be protected from extreme temperature – in other words, if you didn’t take your potted plants inside during the heatwave, they are more likely dead. Don’t give up on your garden; instead, ask experts for advice.

Ugh, cleaning again

It’s not that you don’t want to clean. But it just takes too long. A hard-working Millennial deserves a break from time to time. Don’t fool yourself: cleaning is only long because you’re wasting unnecessary time. For a start, you don’t need a tonne of different products. Keep your cleaning kit simple with antibacterial wipes, a glass cleaner, a spray and a brush. Don’t wait until the weekend to clean everything. Instead, you’ll find it’s more manageable to keep short cleaning appointments throughout the week.

Walking the dog? Can’t we train it to use the loo?

The dog is the most popular pet in the UK, with 26% of households owning one. If you gave in and adopted a cute puppy, you might have realised that having a dog is not as easy as you seemed to remember from your childhood. Indeed, a dog needs to be trained. One of the most common complaints for dog owners is to manage to walk their pet. If you haven’t trained your pup to walk calmly on a lead, it’s fair to say that you can find the experience tiresome and brutal.

Can’t we eat on the sofa?

Millennials much preferred eating in a semi-dark room in front of the TV. You can make the dining experience a lot more enjoyable with two major changes. Firstly, you should invest in quality dining chairs that match the table in height and width. And secondly, bringing fun and exciting plates can definitely make you change your mind about taking your meal at a table. Bright plates make you want to engage with your food.

Naturally, the path to mastering adulting is long and tumultuous. But by taking each day as it comes and experimenting with new methods at home, you can overcome your household challenges. The frustration of household adulting will only be a distant memory!
