The Octonauts Live – A Review

During the half term I took my twins to see The Octonauts Live at my local theatre.

We went with friends and because I didn’t have many plans for the week off school (wanted to keep the diary free for some relaxing!) we were really looking forward to going out to watch the show.

My 5yr old twin boys are big Octonauts fans, they love the CBeebies TV series and have a huge collection of toys too, which they love to play with in the bath. They know all the names of the characters so as soon as we took our seats in the theatre and the light went down, they were beyond excited.

The show promised to be an amazing underwater adventure, and it delivered! With audience participation from the start, the actors really got the kids involved so that they believed they were all on this adventure together with the Octonauts! There were catchy singalong songs throughout, a fab storyline whereby the mission to ‘explore, rescue and protect’ took them to an underwater volcano that was about to erupt! There was just the right amount of suspense too… it was a race against time to rescue a tortoise and for Captain Barnacles to make it back to the Octopod in time! Would he succeed?

My boys were enthralled all the way through. During the second half there was a spectacular underwater light show, the background was dark and the puppeteers brought the sea creatures and Octonauts to life through fluorescent lights which looked truly amazing! So clever.

We’ve been to a few of these live shows now and I really think this was the best we’ve seen so far. A definite thumbs up from us, we had a great afternoon.

The show is touring till the end of July so if you want to buy tickets… and you really must, the kids will love it, you can check dates and find out other information about the show here.
