Camp Bestival Ambassador 2017

camp bestival ambassador

I am so excited to be chosen as a Camp Bestival Ambassdor this year again!

Our time at Camp Bestival last year was the absolute highlight of our year and my children haven’t stopped talking about it since. That’s how you know you’ve created some of the best lifelong special memories for your children, when they go over their experience of it time and time again.

It’s fair to say we can’t wait to head back there this year and we are counting down the days.

The magical, amazing festival for families that is Camp Bestival at Lulworth Cove in Dorset, really does have something for everyone.. amazing live acts, brilliant music, comedy, crafts, sport, circus, funfair, bars, food and so much more! I defy anyone to not LOVE it as much as we did!

It’s the perfect place for novice campers too as all your neighbours on the camping site are families and everyone helps each other out. Everyone is super friendly and just so happy… enjoying these few days at the start of the Summer holidays  which really does kick the summer off perfectly!

But you don’t have to take your own tent if you don’t want to! There are so many different options available to you if you don’t fancy pitching up yourself! There’s the pre-pitched site….. normal tents but are already pitched for you to step right into. There’s a variety of funky tents to hire like the Bells and Yurts, fromt he basic to the luxurious. There’s the wooden Pod’s and the Cloudhouses! The choice is extensive so they can be sure to have the perfect sleeping options for you. There’s even a pop up Hotel this year! So pop over (get it) to the Camp Bestival website where you can see for yourself the choices on offer!

Being at a Festival with the kids is a wonderful feeling for them and for you. We stayed up late, donned the glitter, danced in a field at the main stage while listening to some amazing music! It’s a surreal experience to do this with kids but one that will stay with you forever!

The lineup this year includes acts such as Mark Ronson, T’Pau, Madness, Leftfield, All Saints, Anne Marie, Lightning Seeds and many more. That’s just the main stage. There are literally hundreds of other acts and attractions to see, in fact… you’ll be stumped for choice as to where you want to to be as you’ll certainly want to be in two places at the same time!

IMG_8571

Being with great friends was, for me, the best thing! Myself and my best blogging buddies, Ruth from Rocknrollerbaby and Katy from Modern Mummy, left the men at home, pitched our tents together and had a blast all weekend while our kids ran riot!

There’s only two months to go till Camp Bestival so you’ve still got time to book those tickets! I cannot recommend it highly enough…. everyone that goes always goes back… this will be my friend Ruth’s fourth year and Katy’s fifth….. if that doesn’t tell you how awesome it is then I don’t know what will!

This will be our second year and we really can’t wait!

Hope to see you there ;)

Set to be truly unforgettable, Camp Bestival’s tenth outing at Lulworth Castle this 27-30 July just keeps on getting better with even more glamorous Pop Stars & Rock Stars joy in store for kids of all ages at the greatest family show on earth. Joining Madness and Mark Ronson, the Sunday night headliner is true pop music royalty and there will be a whole heap of good time treats to keep you dancing throughout the weekend, too!

Rob da Bank says: “There’s been so much talk of musical icons recently and I’m very proud that we’ll be presenting one of the most legendary figures in song-writing, music production and, maybe, the ultimate anti-pop star, Brian Wilson. Having made so many incredible records with the Beach Boys, Brian Wilson’s Pet Sounds is a real solo foray into psychedelic rock, introspective lyric writing and a beautiful wall of sound concept album that still blows people away 50 years on. Whether you’re a stalwart Wilson supporter or maybe it’s the first time you’ve heard his name, I hope you’ll be there in the moment for the Sunday headliner in his full majesty”.

Hallowed as one of the all-time greats in the pantheon of pop music, and due to phenomenal public demand in the UK, Brian Wilson returns one last time to present ‘Pet Sounds’ in its entirety, plus his greatest hits. Universally hailed as one of pop music’s most important recordings, Brian will be bringing his majestic masterpiece to Camp Bestival for a headline sunset performance, captivating the crowds with intricate harmonies and breath taking melodies. An absolute must-see as part of an epic Sunday finale that will feature Leftfield bringing the main stage to a close before the fireworks spectacular, Brian Wilson’s genius and his most influential musical treasure are sure to be a historic part of Camp Bestival’s tenth anniversary celebrations.

And, as if that wasn’t enough, there will also be unmissable appearances from BBC Sound of 2017 top tip, Ray BLK, pop chanteuse Kate Nash, Camp Bestival heroes & rum-funk faves The Cuban Brothers, and chart topper and former Oliver Heldens, Wilkinson & Rudimental diva, Becky Hill. There will be more glorious commotion with Morrisey’s greatest songs getting some Mexican spice courtesy of Mexrrissey, the ultimate Mancunian tribute band The Smiths LTD making a real difference, dancefloor sluggers Dub Pistols getting their skank on, audacious turntablist DJ Yoda getting his game on, the King goes grunge with Elvana: Elvis fronted Nirvana, and new wave funk powerhouse The Blockheads giving us reasons to be cheerful.

There’s also Norman Jay MBE hitting the decks and delivering into the good times like only he can, and amazing music from Los Pacaminos featuring Paul Young, Raghu Dixit, Circus Raj, Disney Rascal, Funky Little Choir, Indian Queens, Rajasthan Heritage Brass Band, The Shellac Collective and The Ska Vengers.

COMEDY AT CAMP BESTIVAL

With a whole host of fantastic music and amazing family fun already announced for this year’s Camp Bestival, there will also be laughs aplenty with the side-splitting Big Top Sunday evening comedy line-up. Featuring three of the best names on the circuit right now…..

REGINALD D HUNTER

GARY DELANEY / KERRY GODLIMAN

Plus interactive comedy fun for the kids with:

KIDOCRACY

Commenting on her third Camp Bestival appearance, Kerry Godliman said: “Once again there’s a fantastic Big Top line-up of comedy at Camp Bestival, Reginald D Hunter is easily one of the best comedians around, Gary Delaney is a non-stop gag machine and hey I’m not too shabby, myself. And with loads more comics and clowns being announced soon, you won’t be stuck for a laugh at Lulworth Castle this July!”

Frequently described as the coolest man in comedy, Reginald D Hunter has become an established headline act across the globe, so Camp Bestival are delighted that he will be headlining this year’s comedy stage. A big hitter on TV, Reginald is a regular on shows including Have I Got News for You, Live at the Apollo and QI.

There will be Mock the Week’s near the knuckle one-liner king Gary Delaney firing off cheeky schoolboy humour with infectious charm, and the compere will be the straight-talking and quick-witted Kerry Godliman, who is a Radio 4 regular, has appeared on Live at the Apollo a few times, Jack Dee’s Referendum HelpDesk, Channel 4’s Comedy Gala and was Hannah in Ricky Gervais comedy, Derek.

And, ensuring there’s plenty of laughter on the cards for the kids too, new hit show Kidocracy, an interactive theatre show for children aged 6+, presented by Keith Farnan (Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow) will be performing! Appearing as his alter ego, Brehon, an ancient Irish know-it-all, the show begins when children are told they are being given an island to rule. In just under an hour, they must elect leaders, write anthems, come up with rules that rock and deal with all sorts of crises because running the world isn’t just all fun, fun, fun, there’s stuff to be done as well!

Camp Bestival’s festi-holiday feast of fun and frolics continues to grow with even more fantastic live acts, booty shaking sound system line-ups, and jubilant family entertainment joining the bill. Plus, news of a very special album performance, too.

Rob da Bank says: “I’ve waited a long time to see Leftfield perform Leftism in full, so Sunday night after Brian Wilson performing Pet Sounds should be pretty special! And I really don’t believe there will be another festival this year, let alone millennia, which has the following line-up as we add The Lightning Seeds, The Crumble Lady, Julian Clary, Eats Everything, Orkesta Mendoza and David Rodigan. From reggae to kids’ pop, South American tearaway music and the camp Mr Clary it’s gonna be some festi!”

With an arsenal of big-hitting pop singles including Pure, Lucky You, and Match of the Day favourite The Life of Riley, The Lightning Seeds will be heading to Lulworth Castle to rouse the Camp Bestival crowds with what is guaranteed to be a hit-packed set. The brainchild of Liverpool legend Ian Broudie, the exuberant pop brilliance of The Lightning Seeds has seen them conquer everywhere from football terraces to indie clubs and beyond, making them firm favourites for sing-along mayhem at Camp Bestivals Pop Stars & Rock Stars extravaganza.

The good news keeps on coming as the bill for The Greatest Tent on Earth will be topped by undisputed legend, comedian, entertainer and writer Julian Clary, who, along with award-winning illustrator David Roberts, will introduce you to The Bolds, a brand-new series of adventures about a family of hyenas living in an ordinary suburban street. With wildly hilarious readings in Clary’s unique style and live drawing by Roberts there will be guaranteed laughter at this unmissable appearance.

The dancefloors of Camp Bestival are destined to be jumping all weekend long with a variety of sound system rampages suitable for all ages, including Old Skool marauding courtesy of Eats Everything back to back with hardcore legend Ellis Dee. David Rodigan’s Ram Jam will vibrate with appearances from the previously announced David Rodigan and Norman Jay MBE plus Natty Congo, DJ Q and Venum Sound. Ensuring the rug cutting medley covers all bases, the sublime Greco-Roman Soundsystem will see arms aloft attitude from Joe Goddard, JeanGa and George playing live, Full Nelson and George T. While finest purveyors of family raves across the nation, Big Fish Little Fish will see a proper Old Skool action from Alter 8’s March Archer and 2 Bad Mice, with drum n bass and jungle manoeuvres from Baker & Beale, and more special guests to be announced very soon.

There will also be even more Greatest Tent on Earth shenanigans with The Crumble Lady AKA Lorraine Bowen who was David Walliams’ Golden Buzzer winner on Britain’s Got Talent 2015, fantastic theatre with the tale of a baby fire dragon, Dotty The Dragon, colourful characters, catchy songs and puppetry from the Animalphabet team, with music by Al and Sam of The Hoosiers, and patchwork entertainment with Elmer the Elephant.

Plus, there will be poems, songs, stories, games and improvisation in a special kids’ edition of Tongue Fu, interactive theatre show Kidocracy, collective musical amusements with Mrs H and the Sing-along Band, ten times Guinness World Record-breaker, master Bubble-ologist and proud holder of no less than three Blue Peter badges, Samsam Bubbleman with his Giant Bubble Show, rocked-up nursery rhymes, action songs, and kid-friendly rock and pop favourites from Boogie Monsters, workshops and three new sets of performances from long-time Camp Bestival faves, West End Kids and Dorset-based and local to Lulworth theatre company The MakeShift Ensemble presents Fox and Rabbit’s idiots guide to the Owl and the Pussycat.

Phew….. I can’t keep up and the list of appearances keeps on updating!

Camp Bestival 2017 – The First Official Lineup!

Camp Bestival was definitely one of the highlights of last year for us! We had the best time ever! Certainly lives up to it’s name!

As soon as we got back the kids were talking about going again next year…. and now that Christmas is over and the new year is well under way, it’s already coming up in conversation!

The excitement is building now too as I’ve started to receive the very first emails sharing what we can expect from Camp Bestival 2017 and it’s looking pretty darn good if you ask me!!

Camp Bestival 2017

The theme this year is ….

‘POP STARS & ROCK STARS’

Sounds cool doesn’t it?

Celebrating their landmark tenth festi-holiday in style, Camp Bestival gets its rocks off with a theme guaranteed to get the whole family dancing all weekend long. Yes, Pop Stars & Rock Stars is the game and 27th – 30th July 2017 is the date you can’t miss this summer!

Unabashed pop kid and rock n roll believer Rob da Bank says: “Who hasn’t dreamed about busting a move like James Brown, getting into spandex like Kylie, glittering up like Ziggy Stardust or going a bit more sensible like Blur? Well, its time to get into the dressing up box, be a bit brave and get ready for Camp Bestival 2017… now where’s my meat dress?!

In among all the crazy excesses of music, theatre, family shows, fairground attractions, outdoor activities, poets, authors, comics and amazing food, you will never miss an opportunity to bust out the glitter and spandex and the Pop Stars & Rock Stars theme is the perfect chance to indulge your fantasies and celebrate your musical heroes.

The first wave of Pop Stars & Rock Stars announced to headline have also been announced and they are….

The Pop Stars & Rock Stars theme is getting everyone excited and Camp Bestival’s epic tenth anniversary bash is already set to be unforgettable, with an unbeatable combo of music, themed activities and family sensations, all at a castle campsite by the sea. This is just the first wave of acts for 2017, so you’d be mad to miss out on the best festi-holiday ever at Lulworth Castle next July.

Mark Ronson is unquestionably the king of pop right now, he will be headlining the Castle stage on Friday night. The A-list’s favourite DJ, Mark’s set will be a non-stop hit parade from Amy Winehouse to Bruno Mars, so make sure you pack your dancing shoes and feel like a pop star at Mark’s own Camp Bestival house party!

The first big kids show for 2017 – yes, it’s School of Rock – The Musical! Don’t miss this very special UK festival exclusive appearance from the cast of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s amazing new musical based on the classic 2003 film.

There’s plenty more pop goodness with main stage appearances from the ‘90s coolest girl band, All Saints, Frankie Goes to Hollywood icon Holly Johnson, techno lords Leftfield, X Factor 2015 winner Louisa Johnson and the world’s most fab-tastic tribute band, The Bootleg Beatles.

But Camp is all about the kids and we have tons of entertainment, including Camp Bestival legend Mr Tumble, the return of Historic Royal Palaces’ Tudors on Tour, TV tearaways Dick and Dom, who will be making an exclusive main stage appearance and rocking the Silent Disco, and the inimitable DJ BBQ who will host The Feast Collective. We’ll also have loads of fun stuff including a Giant Kids’ Disco with the World’s Largest Disco Ball, and the inaugural UK Festival Air Guitar Championships.

Dick and Dom say: “So, we’ve had enough of Rob da Bank hanging around our front door begging us to come back, so… WE’RE BACK!!!! 2017 will see us being flipping ace on the main stage (as usual) making people laugh (and cry (as usual)) and… and… AND, it’s ‘DICK V DOM’ on the decks for the silent disco.

If you’re looking for some proper hands in the air moments, Camp Bestival’s favourite disco destination Bollywood will be playing host to the likes of beat vagabond Skream, reggae and dance hall deity David Rodigan, who will present Ram Jam, and old school rave pioneers Raindance. Plus, there will be the essential rave preparation for the youth courtesy of Big Fish Little Fish.

Also the SATURDAY HEADLINERS NOW REVEALED……

MADNESS!

Truly one of the best rock or pop bands that Britain has ever seen, Camp Bestival are very pleased indeed to announce that Madness will be Saturday night headliners at our tenth birthday bash. With their critically acclaimed top five album, Can’t Touch Us Now, enjoying its ninth week on the official UK album chart, the nutty boys are in finest fettle and will take to the Castle Stage to treat the crowd to some full flavour party behaviour with their almost endless litany of classic pop, sing-along favourites and skanking wonders including Baggy Trousers, House of Fun, Wings of a Dove and many more. The very essence of good times, Madness will be unmissable on Saturday night at Camp Bestival!

In a fetching pair of Baggy Trousers, Rob da Bank says: “Madness have always been up there in terms of rocking UK bands but weirdly the last few years has seen them get even better live. I’ve had the pleasure of listening to their music for the past four decades, DJing for their House of Common festi, warming up for them at this very same festival a few years back and being chased round the campsite by Suggs in the middle of the night. These guys are dangerous and we can’t wait to get ‘em back for Camp Bestival”.

We are also hiring a ruddy huge crane to bring you the World’s Largest Disco Ball, and not just with any old DJs, but with a stellar cast of late night party starters from Sara Cox and the Inspiral Carpets’ Clint Boon to our mate Bez and a brand-new teen night too… see you at the castle”.

He’s the king of kids’ TV when it comes to things to make and do, so Camp Bestival are super-excited to announce that Mister Maker will be making his debut at this year’s Camp Bestival. A wellspring of inventiveness and a master of colour and shapes, Mister Maker is a sure-fire source of inspiration when it comes to creative play!

The Bear & the Piano live in the Dingly Dell…. very excited about this! Winner of 2016’s Waterstones Children’s Book Prize for Best Illustrated Book, don’t miss this series of magical storytelling sessions, craft and musical workshops based on David Litchfield’s beautiful story of friendship.

Don’t miss the daily Kids’ Disco every evening, with Rob da Bank & friends getting the tots rocking. And there will be some proper late night disco action for mums and dads too. Friday night’s Big Disco action will come courtesy of Sara Cox presents Just Can’t Get Enough 80s with a luxuriance of big-haired dancefloor gems, and Inspiral Carpets’ Clint Boon with his Big Boonarmy Bash playing hits from the cream of the indie scene. And making sure there’s dancefloor action for everyone, there’ll also have a Teen Big Disco Party – featuring grime, hip-hop, rock and pop with some special guest DJs.

Upping Camp Bestival’s tenth anniversary dance game big time, there will be booty shaking sets from Eats Everything who will be going on an old skool trip, bass-led grooves from Shadow Child and Greco Roman Soundsystem, while hardcore behaviour is to be expected from Raindance who will be winding up the whistle posse with Altern-8, Daniel Billy Bunter, Shades of Rhythm, DJ Faydz, Liquid, Rachel Wallace and 2 Bad Mice. Plus, there’ll be hip-swinging manoeuvres from Lady Jane Bongo, Jim8track, DJ Dapper Dan and Dr DJ & Bollywood Dancers.

She’s queen of the charts having just spent nine weeks on the top spot with Rockabye her collaboration with Clean Bandit, so Camp Bestival are over the moon to reveal that Anne-Marie will be helping to celebrate their tenth anniversary! An undeniable superstar, Anne Marie has a history of blowing crowds away whenever she plays, so hold on to your hats when she hits the Castle stage for what will be an unmissable set of sublime pop music! And ensuring there’s plenty more live music across the weekend there will also be performances from Sheffield quintet Reverend and The Makers, sea shanty super stars Skinny Lister, tastemakers’ top pick Louis Berry, Brit-reggae quartet The Skints, The Voice star Laura Oakes, exotic psychedelia from Flamingods, the veritable heart and soul of the 80s T’Pau and Liverpool’s finest The Christians.

There are plenty more music, kids entertainment and family attractions to be announced, including one more headliner and lots more pop, rock and dance delights plus, seven arenas filled with amazing fun, delicious food & drink, relaxing therapies and top notch facilities catering for your family’s needs, so keep your eyes peeled for more info coming soon and keep checking www.campbestival.net and our  Facebookand Twitter for all the latest info.
